You might have heard this before: “May the Force be with you”. This is how Star Wars fans greet themselves all over the world. The greeting mentions “The Force”, the energy that fuels the Jedi knights’ superpowers. But the way it is written, “May the Fourth”, is a word play that refers to a date, May, 4th, elected by fans all over as the “Star Wars Day”. Fun, isn’t it?

In 2011, the first organized celebration of Star Wars Day took place at the Toronto Underground Cinema festival. Festivities included an Original Trilogy Trivia Game Show; a costume contest with celebrity judges; and the web’s best tribute films, mash-ups, parodies, and remixes on the big screen.

Since 2013, The Walt Disney Company has officially observed the holiday with several Star Wars events and festivities at Disneyland and Walt Disney World.

This year, the celebrations might happen in Brazil as well. Stay tuned to the website of the “Conselho Jedi do Rio de Janeiro” for the activities. And if you like the space fantasy franchises, be ready for the upcoming movie “Solo: a Star Wars story” that is to be released also this month, featuring Alden Ehrenreich as the young Han Solo, when he met his co-pilot Chewbacca.

See? There’s a lot to celebrate on Star Wars Day this year. May the Fourth be with you!
