1. Hilda Spellman, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina

In a universe of adventure, horror, and turnarounds; the happy character Hilda Spellman guarantees laughs. Smart, maternal, and fun; she loves cooking and knows all about potions, curses, and medicinal plants. Unlike her older sister, Zelda, she is Sabrina’s friendlier aunt. When her family is threatened, she can also be quite revengeful, though.

2. Frankie, Grace and Frankie

In a hippie style and with a great and funny sense of humor, Frankie Bergstein can win anybody’s heart. After her husband, Sol, announces his romantic relationship with his business partner, Robert; Frankie’s life turns upside down. So, she has to start over. She is brought together with her unlikely friend Grace Hanson, Robert’s ex-wife. Together,  they deal with dilemmas and stereotypes of the elederly and end up building up an incredible friendship.

When Marilla Cuthbert and her brother decided to adopt a boy to help around their farm, they didn’t expect to run into someone like little Anne Shirley. Despite her traumatic experiences in previous foster homes, this 13-real old girl can still see beauty and hope in the world. With her passion for reading and bright imagination, she charms everyone, while growing up, trying to find her own place in this world. 

4. Princesa Margaret, The Crown

“I have as much privacy as a goldfish in a bowl.”

The lives of the British royal family, in the 50’s, are portrayed in The Crown. The younger daughter of King George VI, Princess Margaret, is surrounded by secrets, conflicts, and dilemmas. Authentic, cranky, and lively; the only sibling of Queen Elisabeth II is considered the main role in the royal family, and takes over the series quite a few times. 

5. Casey Gardner, Atypical

“I’m still starving. Frankie talked me into ordering the quinoa bowl. I feel like I just ate two pounds of air.”

Sam, a teenager who has autism spectrum disorder, is the main character of the series. Casey Gardner is Sam’s younger sister.  Teasing her brother and running are some of the things she likes to do the most. Since her parents are more concerned about her brother in the family dynamics, she feels a little left behind. In spite of all her melancholy and a certain rough behavior, her silent empathy helps her deal with Sam in the most critical moments of Atypical. It’s an adorable must-see!

6. Annalise Keating, How to Get Away with Murder

“You’ll only have yourself to blame if it ends badly.”

Riveting and mysterious, How to Get Away with Murder is led by a law professor and criminal defense attorney Annalise Keating. Her determination, elegance, and bright mind turn her into an absorbing antiheroine. The sensitive and humane sides of her fascinating personality are exposed throughout the series.

7. Eleven, Stranger Things

Kidnapped at birth, and raised in the National Laboratory in Hawkins, Eleven was a test subject for numerous scientific experiments to develop her psychokinetic skills. When she manages to escape the lab, she meets Mike, Dustin, and Lucas. The three of them turn into her best friends. They expect Eleven to help them find Will, a friend who is missing. They are not wrong. Throughout the series, she does whatever it takes to protect her crew: from using her powers to make a bad boy pee in his own pants to setting a car on fire just using her telekinetic powers. She’s brave, protective, and adorable!

8. Samantha White, Dear White People

“Dear white people, our skin color is not a weapon. You don’t have to be afraid of it.”

A student at a prestigious and predominantly white college, Samantha White is the leader of a group of several black students, and becomes the voice of the radio show Dear White People, which denounces racial descrimination in the institution. Outstandly sincere and determined, Sam has an irreplaceable role in the development and reflection of the racial issues discussed in the series. It’s one of those necessary and extremely thought-provoking series which are worth binge-watching. You should add it to your list!

9. Arya Stark, Game of Thrones

“Fear cuts deeper than swords.”

Rooting for Arya Stark, in Game of Thrones, is almost inevitable. With her audacity, courage, and determination; she proves to be much more than just a lady, unlike what she was expected to be. She has always been into weapons and wars. Embroidery and etiquette bore her to death. Throughout the series, she has to grow up and survive on her own after losing most of her family. Then again, she not only overcomes obstacles, but plays a crucial role during the war with Needle — her small, slender sword.

10. Lorelai Gilmore, Gilmore Girls

“As long as everything is exactly the way I want it, I’m totally flexible”

At the age of 16, Lorelai Gilmore ran away from her parents’ house to raise her daughter Rory alone in Stars Hollow, a small fiction town. She got a job as a manager at a hotel where she made her new best friends, the chef Sookie and the sarcastic concierge Michel. Addicted to coffee and the owner of 64 pairs of shoes, she amuses everyone with her mother-daughter relationship and her dynamic, communicative, and  wise personality. They also love some food and movie night just like we all do.
